DMC Cotton Natura

Today I’m here with a yarn review. Because OH. MY. GOD… I have to tell you about the evil geniuses at DMC.

And they ARE evil geniuses. They sent me a goody bag with FOUR yarns to test out and tell you about, and ooh they were good’uns! In this post I’m reviewing two of them. This is simply because I have only used two so far! Hey, I’m a hooker not a superhero!

The first was DMC Natura Just Cotton.

Now look, I’m not going to quote tension and yardage at you. You can go to the DMC website and read that; I’m going to tell you about my experience and my opinions.

On receiving such a fab parcel of goodies, the yarn I was most drawn to and grabbed first was the Natura Just Cotton. I’ve been getting interested in cotton yarn just lately and experimenting with it, see, DMC are evil geniuses because they just… KNEW!

But what to make?! I had a rummage on Ravelry and found this lovely pattern for a Baby Shawl and away I went!

The yarn feels lovely. It’s cotton obviously, so it feels cotton soft and lovely and natural. That was what inspired me to make a baby item with it.

To work with it is a DREAM! Seriously, you crocheters out there will know that cotton can be a bit of a tricky beast sometimes what with the splitty fibres. I’ve had a different brand just recently that has been making me want to stick my crochet hook in my eye with frustration, but none of that here! It really holds together nicely. I had one occasion where the fibres split slightly, but that was partly due to my fluffing up the stitch i was working on if I’m honest.

The stitch definition you get is beautiful.

My only (pretty mild) criticism would be the price and the amount you get. I seemed to get through the ball pretty darned fast! It’s ony a 50g ball so I suppose that’s to be expected really. The cost of a 50g ball is £3.49. It’s probably a bit more than I’d generally pay, but its not an unfair price, I’m just a cheap-arse.

It’s a lovely lovely yarn, and although I might not be about to run out and stock my wool shelf in every shade available (and let me tell you, it’s a pretty extensive range of colours), I’d definitely use it for a special project as a gift or for baby things in my Etsy shop.

Because I ran out so fast, I had to roll it up and put it to one side while I waited for more to arrive… See?! EVIL GENIUSES! Because of course the consequence was…
